Coppertop's Captain Kirk CD MH WCX VC CCA

Born:  April 2004

Kirk is from Coppertop kennels in San Jose California. He comes from strong field and obedience line and is an outstanding example of a multipurpose Golden.  He is a handsome, intelligent and hard working boy who loves to pick up birds during the day and spend his evenings curled up on the rug in front of the TV. He is the first dog Ann has trained and handled in field events, and he is 100% owner trained and handled.  He earned his WCX on his first attempt, his JH and his SH in 5 tests.  He earned the 5 legs required for his MH in 8 attempts (finishing with 3 straight passes).   He is a strong water dog with a spectacular water entry.  He is extremely birdy with a high drive to retrieve, but handles birds tenderly.   He is an exceptionally easy dog to train -- quick to learn, and responsive to both praise and corrections.  He is a real team player with a stylish and confident attitude.  With limited training, he earned his CD in 3 shows with 2 first places in Novice B.  After taking a year off training due to personal reasons we are now preparing to run Quals and compete for advanced obedience titles.

Kirk earned his CCA in his first attempt on April 22, 2007 at the Connecticut River Valley GRC event.  He is balanced looking dog at 24.5 inches tall, and approximately 72 lbs.  He is dark golden with black nose pigmentation and dark brown eye pigmentation.  Overall, he has a masculine, “old fashioned”  moderate appearance and looks very much like the dual champions of 50 years ago.   He has a beautiful head, perfect feet, nice topline, scissors bite (with full dentition) and good tail set (with a slightly curved tail carriage).  He moves nicely both side and rear.  He has slightly more angulation rear than front.  His coat is easy to maintain, of moderate length and thickness, quick to dry and not prone to either burrs or matting.

Perhaps Kirk's best trait is his temperament.   He has a playful and clownish personality at home who loves every adult and child he meets, but is very serious and attentive when working.  He gets along well with other dogs, including intact males.  He has never shown any signs of aggression and has a "live and let live" attitude.
